PIERCING AFTERCARE

Your Roadmap to Piercing Care

Now that you have your dream piercing, learn the best ways to take care of it. The proper aftercare routine will ensure that your piercing heals rapidly and easily.
Cleaning Instructions
  • Always wash your hands thoroughly to remove bacteria prior to touching your piercing.
  • Only use the cleaning solution that your piercer has recommended.
  • In a clean cup, soak a minimum of eight cotton buds in the solution until completely saturated.
  • Clean around one side of the piercing exit hole and one section of the jewellery making sure to remove any discharge or hard crust.
  • Once clean, gently rotate or slide the clean section of the jewellery through the piercing and repeat on the second side of the piercing and jewellery.
  • Repeat the above steps several times until you work through all of the cotton buds to ensure the piercing is thoroughly cleaned.
  • Cleaning should be carried out a minimum of three times daily.
  • Ensure to clean the piercing after bathing to remove soap/shampoo residue, after swimming and applying makeup to avoid irritation.  Avoid fake tan and swimming during the healing process!

Aftercare Tips

  • Once dry, do not touch, rotate or fiddle with the jewellery unless necessary. This can introduce bacteria and delay healing.
  • Continue the saline spray regimen for the entire healing period. Healing times vary depending on piercing location, but most take 2-6 months.
  • Wear properly fitted titanium or 14+ kt solid gold jewellery. Avoid cheap metals that can irritate the piercing.
  • Sleep on a clean towel or travel pillow if you have an ear or facial piercing that could get dirty at night.
  • See your piercer if signs of infection develop – redness, swelling, oozing, increased pain or heat. Otherwise, LITHA (leave it the hell alone)!
  • We recommend booking a checkup before changing jewellery or cleaning less often for the first time. Your aftercare form includes a suggested checkup date based on your piercing. This checkup allows us to assess if your piercing has healed enough to properly transition your cleaning routine or jewellery. Booking this appointment ensures we can support those changes so you continue healing well.

Piercing Aftercare Precautions

  • Be careful not to aggravate your new piercing. Be cautious while washing and styling your hair, when putting on or removing clothing, and refrain from sleeping on a fresh piercing.

  • In the shower, try to keep soaps or shampoos away from the area and rinse thoroughly after.

  • Be careful about performing any strenuous exercise while healing a fresh body piercing. We also recommend that you avoid wearing tight clothing.

  • Do not remove your jewellery during the healing process as it will begin to close immediately.

  • We suggest you avoid swimming in chlorinated pool water or freshwater lakes as your piercing heals.
