In 1874, on the banks of the River Lagan, St Malachy’s Christian Brothers school first opened its doors.

The Gothic revival style building was designed by architect Alexander McAllister. After pressure to close following WWII due to its distance from residential areas, the school closed in 1972. The building was briefly a warehouse before undergoing renovation in 1980 to become a commercial space and solicitor’s office.

In 2014 it became home to our studio – Belfast City Skinworks, one of the first and longest running tattoo studios in Belfast. We decorated the space to reflect our heritage and we have unique artists providing custom tattoo designs. We also offer professional piercings and operate to the highest hygiene standards. Appointments are recommended but walk-ins are sometimes available in this historic building.

We won’t bore you with the usual tattoo etiquette.

Tattoos need respect, not boredom.

Belfast City Skinworks holds an 18 and over policy. So that means no children under 18! We operate mainly by appointments. However, in the event of someone not showing up we may take the occasional walk-in.

"I decided to have it done in Skinworks as it has the best reputation and now I can agree with that as I have had a personal experience. My tattoo is small and simple but very personal and means so much to me. Donal gave me the best advice and Ken gave me the best tattoo. They both put me at ease as I was nervous about this, but definitely the best decision and the best place to go... so thank u again Donal and Ken. You don't know what this means to me."
